ORIENTAL CAMPHOR WOOD & SOAPSTONE ANTIQUE CHEST

A fine quality early 20th century freestanding Chinese oriental antique camphor wood chest with cherry blossom carving to the borders and ebonised edge. The inlaid coloured soapstone has been beautifully hand carved in relief and engraved to create scenes of male scholars with female figures in traditional dress with cherry blossom trees.

The chest stands on carved foo dog cabriole feet and retains its original embossed brass back plate and latch and it comes with a working lock and key. Inside, the chest has a lovely camphor wood aroma. This piece is great for storage but would also make a fantastic coffee table with a glass top fitted.
