FRENCH BRONZE GILT & PORCELAIN ANTIQUE MANTEL CLOCK BY JAPY FRERES

DESCRIPTION

An extremely good quality French Victorian period bronze gilt antique mantel or table clock with finely cast acanthus leaf moulding design, scrolling foliate side mounts with etched floral design to the sides finished with floral garland over the dial.

The case has inset turquoise panels which are delicately hand painted and have applied white and red beaded detail with gilt decoration. The finely painted centre panel shows a male presenting a female with a cake in traditional Louis XVI attire .The clock is surmounted with a porcelain and gilt urn and is adorned with bronze gilt handles and acorn finial.

The decorative dial has Roman numerals and the movement is a French eight day which strikes the hours and half hours on a bell.

The movement back plate is stamped with the makers name:-
